The Truth About
Soke Calkins
& Tsunami-Ryu Karate Do
In Chili NY
I have been asked several times by my students and some people on different forums. That they heard that Soke Calkins was not part of the Dojo in Chili or part of the "Team" that founded Tsunami-Ryu Karate-Do. So, was Soke Calkins Part of the Chili NY Dojo and One of the Team Founders of Tsunami-Ryu Karate-Do?
YES ! ! ! These statements are false. Made up by David Mason for some reason I have yet to figure out. Soke Calkins was not only a member in good standing but one of the Team that founded Tsunami-Ryu in 1997.
Soke Calkins Left The Chili Dojo in 1998 of his own free will due to differents of opinion between himself and Soke Mason. Many were sad to see him leave.
These Pictures Show The Truth.

I really hated to have to make this page but Enough is Enough... Soke David Mason has been bad talking me and then not giving credit to where credit is due.
I worked hard and drove many miles, 1st from Batavia then from Perry, Ny to
teach in these classes and help build this system. I have never down talked David Mason, In fact if you read my bio on this site you hear me say.. "In 1994 Soke Calkins met Sensei David Mason in a style called Yami-Umi-Do. Yami-Umi-Do was formed by Shihan Mark Wagner of Rochester, Ny. Sensei mason was one of his students & instructors. Soke was impressed with Sensei Mason's teaching style and ideals. Sensei Mason invited Then "Sensei" Calkins to teach with him in N. Chili, Ny. Sensei Mason also held a Black Belt in Isshin-Ryu Karate under the training of Master Joe Jennings. "
WOW It Looks To Me Like I Am Giving Him Credit As A Martial Artist...
Not Down Talking Him.
I Just Want this to end. I No longer teach Tsunami-Ryu Karate Do. I have been teaching my own system from 2004 When Fusho-Satori-Ryu was founded.
I have many fine Instructors and Affiliate Instrutors from all over the world doing My System. I don't need to get a tap on the back for Tsunami-Ryu.
May David Mason Teach for as long as he likes and make the system "WE" built Proud and full of Many Fine Black Belts and Kyu Ranks..
On July 19th Shodai Soke Calkins Received all the recognition he could ever hope for when he was awarded "The Lifetime Achievement Award"
from United Martial Arts Alliance.
